Bowl made from a lovely piece of burr elm. Elm still survives and is much sought after as it is a beautiful wood to work.
Burrs such as the this one provide a sharp contrast with the underlying grain in the wood. Elm sometimes shows line of green colour through the wood although this is not seen in this piece
